Portraits of animals in colored pencil was how I started my art career. I drew portraits of peoples' dogs and cats in college and after graduation and enjoyed the look of just a head surrounded by white paper. Two years ago while in Florida visiting a friend I saw this Great Blue Heron at Homosassa Springs State Park. I hadn't done a portrait in a long time and thought I would enjoy creating one of that Heron. Over the years I have come to love using acrylic paint and this was my first portrait using acrylics. Great H'er Days was very refreshing for me to paint.

The title is a play on the words "great blue heron" days and is pronounced great hair days for short.
